Two recent papers challenge conventional assumptions about expectations in macroeconomic models. The first argues that rational expectations in heterogeneous agent models are unrealistic and computationally burdensome. The second shows how incorporating cognitive skills and overconfidence in a HANK model can improve model fit and policy predictions.
