Two recent studies provide evidence on the relationship between fiscal deficits and inflation, focusing on the post-pandemic period. The first study employs a "high frequency narrative approach" to isolate the causal effect of deficits, while the second demonstrates that standard heterogeneous agent New Keynesian (HANK) models can accurately predict this inflationary response when calibrated to pre-pandemic data.
